In the Karte Parwan district of Kabul, behind a gate that has been rebuilt more times than its keepers care to count, the darbar hall of the city's last functioning gurdwara still fills with the sound of kirtan. The sangat that gathers here numbers in the dozens now, where once it numbered in the tens of thousands.
